Recently we were served with the latest entertainment extravaganza that was claimed to be 'for the first time'. I'm talking about the Anugerah Seri Angkasa. Yes, it's a night where those who are from the entertainment industry (TV and radio, not necessarily artistes) are recognized for their contribution and excellent work. I only managed to catch a few awards before I called it quits. I managed to watch Halim Othman the radio ERA Dj receive his trophy, and also M Rajoli receiving his trophy for Anugerah Pelakon Komedi Terbaik.
All good and well I suppose but I couldn't maintain my focus long enough to endure the show further. I mean to begin with the show started with 'graduates' of the talent shows from each TV stations to give their best rendition of every TV/radio stations jingles, which was not to my liking. I mean, they come out to holler for just a few seconds (that's as long as any jingle is, anymore than that its going to be a single) and then they switch to the next tune. I can't remember which station's jingle it was, but there was this couple who got on stage with the standard dancers in funny attire, then they sway to the fast beat of the jingle while desperately maintaining their grin, and then suddenly they started singing and when I was just about to 'enjoy' the tune it ended abruptly.
Anyway congratulations to those who won, and may you deserve it. I was happy to know that they won RM10,000 together with their beautiful trophy. I'm sure they can think of a lot of ways to utilise the money (I'm beginning to sound like a loser haha). BUT with us being Malaysians, and living in Bolehland, we tend to forget others who should also be given due recognition for their hardwork. I think their contribution far outshines any Anugerah Seri Angkasa's glitter. I was glad when I heard someone achieved 17 A's in the previous SPM and really good results in the STPM. But they didn't receive any trophy. And they were not celebrated with a grand extravaganza to the level of ASA. And most of all they were only awarded 10% of what the winners of ASA received in prize money.
What is our society turning into? Are 'graduates' from the entertainment industry more important and should be honoured more than their 'counterparts' from the academia? Is it because they entertain us while we are stuck in a jam? Is it because they make us laugh? Is it because their acting is so believable? And because of all their achievement we can keep a sane mind which then helps the nation progress further? Is this our direction for nation building? Or is it because the entertainment industry has a better cash flow than the education ministry therefore allowing them to give more instead of a RM1,000 prize money? I mean those who achieved straight A's should be recognized better...don't you think? Bolehland is a strange place nowadays...Boleh this..Boleh that...hmmm...Boleh Blah!
